“Echoes in Our Storms” reflects visually on our inner dialogues and the memories constantly resurfacing in different ways to shape the conversations we have with ourselves. Contrasts and colors clash or fade, opposing or harmonizing with each other, just as our many voices coexist in our minds.

The exhibition is partially underwritten by the

Humboldt Arts Council/Faben Artist Fund.

Marceau Verdiere, a French-born artist and educator now based in Freshwater, Northern California, is known for his abstract paintings that explore the essence of life experiences and memories. After retiring from a 20-year career in arts education, Verdiere now dedicates himself entirely to his art and his work as a co-director of Creekside Arts, an artist residency. Drawing inspiration from nature and Japanese aesthetic philosophies, his work seeks to capture

the present moment while contemplating the nature of memories

and the marks left by time. Verdiere’s work imagines what the

ever-enriched patina of our souls might look like.

Verdiere's work has been widely exhibited across the USA and Europe, and his pieces are part of collections worldwide. He holds

a master’s degree in art education from the University of Strasbourg, France. Verdiere has received numerous accolades, including the Victor Thomas Jacoby Award, the Fezter Institute “Love and Forgiveness in Art” prize, and grants from the MiaBo Foundation

and the Humboldt Arts Council/Faben Artist Fund.
